Legami territoriali (Territorial Bonds)
The journey of an identity

This project came about from the need to highlight the bond that a person has with his homeland. The kind of belonging that the person brings with himself in every territory in which he moves.
I created a sequence of photographs, each of which tell the story of my journey. It starts when I left my homeland (Sardinia island) to Florence and Siena. Here I discovered new places, new people, a new station in which I can stand.
My identity always remained with me during the journey. It allowed me to trace my entire, wonderful path, and for this reason I decided to identify it with a Byssus filament.
This gold thread of animal origin was a rare fiber in Sardinia in ancient times. Also known as sea silk, the Pinna Nobilis secretes it. This mollusk exists only in the Sardinian sea. The Byssus threads have historically been made into cloth, especially for the traditional Sardinian clothing.
Most of the photographs I took represents cold and alienating spaces where industrial, squared buildings stand. They have no identity and are soulless.
Because of this I introduced the gold thread.
I will weave it through the photographs, and it will fill the absence with a precious element that represents both the territorial bond and traditional object.
