About

MapMyArt is a platform for artists, curators, gallerists, educators, tour operators and simple curious people who love contemporary art. It was created in 2016 by Siena Art Institute Onlus with the contribution of the Region of Tuscany and in the autumn of 2017 was expanded thanks to the contribution of Sillumina - Private Copy for Youth and Culture, SIAE and Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Tourism.

The aim of MapMyArt is to give visibility to the works of both emerging and well-established contemporary Italian and international artists, by bringing them into contact with the public and with the arts community and enhancing the relationship between the physical and digital dimensions of contemporary art practices.

Overview

Within the platform, the entry for any inserted artwork appears divided into the following media: photography, sound, video, written text, artist's profile (with personal page links), accompanied by tags. At the end of the beta testing period for the site, we will invite artists to submit artworks to the platform through specific calls.

The contents of MapMyArt are now viewable in two different ways:

1) Graph. The graphical display links, depending on the taxonomy, the various works of art on the platform. Each work of art appears as a circle from which links branch off. Following these links, the user can learn more about the artist and his or her creative process by reading the biography, watching videos or photo albums, listening to recordings and interviews. From the initial research one could find themselves discovering new artworks, artists, projects, linked more or less closely with his or her interests.

2) Map The aim of the platform is to give tips to contemporary art lovers on current or past installations, concrete or digital artworks and where they can see them. For this reason the uploaded works are geolocalized on a map. Thanks to this, the user can map his or her own itinerary based on the personal interest.

Soon it will be possible to differently mark the ongoing installations / events and those which are now only "digital".
